Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Vice Chancellor Ibrahim Abu Shah said the university will take legal action against Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim for refusing to apologise for proposing that it admit 10 percent non-Bumiputera students. He said Khalid should apologise for making the statement on UiTM as it was not only unethical and degrading to the university but also not true at all.
As an intellectual, Ibrahim should be more open to the issue. Ibrahim is playing to the sentiment of the UMNO politicians. Why can't Khalid gave his opinion to improve the quality and standards of the university? In fact by opening the gates of UiTM to other races or to foreign students, it will ultimately benefit everybody i.e by enhancing competition and bringing out the best among the students, and raises the standards of UiTM.
Why is our University not even in the top 100 in the world? If we are to progress to be a first world nation, our students should be a world class standard, graduated themselves from universities of high standing.
If UiTM students were smart, they would want to see more nationalities and races of students in their university. How can it become a world-class university if UiTM continues to hide in their cocoon?
The UiTM vice-chancellor should address the issue of why UiTM has one of the highest rates of unemployed graduates among all local universities.
It is not enough by churning thousands of graduates yearly, but the more important thing is whether the graduates has the quality needed by potential employers when applying for jobs.

It’s time for an overhaul of this despicable system and for giving each and every Malaysian a fair chance to be successful in life.
Give Malaysia the glory it rightly deserves
